Tips For Caring For Your Teeth
You may find it interesting to know than more adults lose teeth through gum disease than for any other reason.
When we do not care for our teeth by efficient cleaning of our teeth and gums the support for the teeth is lost and eventually they become loose and may fall out.
Listed below are some easy steps to follow to prevent this from happening to you.
Always brush your teeth twice a day, for approx 2 minutes each time.
- Always use a pea sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
- Make sure that the toothbrush you use has a small to medium head.
- Use a toothbrush with soft to medium textured bristles.
- Do not scrub your teeth with a hard toothbrush, this will cause abrasion to the teeth.
- Brush the gums as well as the teeth.
- If your gums bleed when brushing, use this as a signal that the teeth/gums need to be brushed more, do not be put off by the bleeding.
- Clean the areas between your teeth daily, for e.g. with floss or another aid recommended by your hygienist.
- Change your toothbrush regularly (approx every 10-12wks).
- Investing in a good electric toothbrush will ensure cleaning for the correct length of time and with the correct pressure.
- Visit your dentist and hygienist as regularly as they recommend that you do.
